How much does stump grinding cost?
It depends on the stump's size, how many there are, roots and access. Send a photo for a free, firm price. No obligation.
Do I need to be home?
Nope. As long as I can get to the stumps and any gates are unlocked, you don't need to be there.
How deep do you grind?
Usually 4–6 inches below ground, enough to mow, seed or lay sod. I can go deeper if you're planting a tree or putting in a patio. Just ask.
What happens to the wood chips?
I rake and level them into the hole and around it as best I can. They settle and break down over time. I don't haul chips away, so they stay on your property. Plenty of people use the extras as mulch.
Will the grinder damage my lawn?
The SC362 is relatively light, on wide tires, and I lay out a path when needed. Expect a little disturbance right around the stump, and that's it.
Do you check for underground utilities?
Yes. I call Dig Safe (811) before I grind, so gas, electric and water lines are marked. It takes them about 3 business days to come out and mark everything, so I build that into the schedule.
Do I need to do anything before you come?
Just a few things. Dig Safe only marks the utility companies' lines, so please flag any private ones near the stump: sprinkler lines, invisible dog fence wire, landscape lighting, or lines to a septic system, propane tank, shed or pool. Unlock any gates, move cars and lawn furniture away from the stump, and keep pets inside while I work. See the full checklist.
Can you get into my backyard?
If there's a 36-inch gate or opening, yes.
Do you remove the whole tree?
No. I grind stumps only. If you need a tree taken down, I'm happy to refer you to a local tree service, and I can grind the stump after.
When can you do the job?
Most jobs are scheduled within a week. I call Dig Safe as soon as you say yes, and they need about 3 business days to mark the lines before I can grind. In winter it also depends on snow cover.
